Petition from the residents of the City of Pittsburgh requesting a public hearing before City Council relative to the proposed development by the Neighborhood Academy School currently located in Garfield, to build and relocate to the Stanton Heights community, adjacent to residential homes.

Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend The Morningside Church of God In Christ for its endless contributions and 57 years of commitment to the Garfield community; and Be It Further Resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does herby proclaim Sunday, April 19, 2009 as "Morningside Church of God and Christ Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Resolution authorizing the Mayor to accept on behalf of the City of Pittsburgh, a grant from the Department of Justice in the amount of $150,000, and authorizing and directing the Mayor to enter into an Agreement or Agreements with qualified drug treatment programs for drug treatment services, with qualified non-profit agencies for project coordination services, with qualified organizations for community surveying, social, educational, recreational, youth development, and other related services including transfer of salaries and fringe benefits, supply purchases, equipment purchases, travel reimbursement, and other expenses in connection with the City's Operation Weed and Seed Program in the East Liberty, Larimer, and Garfield neighborhoods.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes The James A. Garfield Republican Club to be a civic and/or service organization within the context of the Pennsylvania Small Games of Chance Act, as amended.

Resolution amending and supplementing Resolution No. 861, effective January 1, 2000, as amended, entitled: “Adopting and approving the 2000 Capital Budget and the 2000 Community Development Block Grant Program; and approving the 2000 through 2005 Capital Improvement Program, by adjusting various line items in conformance with City Council's 2000 Capital Budget amendments.” By reducing Bethany Church by $10,000; East Liberty Arts Council by $3,000; Sixth Mount Zion Church $16,000 and The Bulletin by $500 and adding $10,000 to Sickle Cell Society; $3,500 to Kelly-Strayhorn Theater; $16,000 to Garfield Jubilee and by making various other changes in Council District 9.

Whereas, Pittsburgh is honored to host the second Annual Garfield Heights Old School Reunion to be held on Saturday, July 28,2007 at the Schenley Park Ice Skating Rink Pavilion; and Whereas, this reunion which is hosted by Ms. Priscilla Lee, Ms. Becky Richey, and Mr. Johnny Sumpter will allow the gathering of past and present residents of Garfield Heights to come together for a positive and festive day; and Whereas, the Garfield Heights Old School Reunion will be blessed with many residents whose roots are from Garfield but has settled throughout the country. There will be nearly 600 attendees traveling from as far away as California and as near as Ohio; and Whereas, The Garfield Heights Old School Reunion committee has come together to incorporate the past with the present and to make a better community for the future; and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby celebrate The Garfield Heights Old School Reunion for their day of community togetherness and wish all who have traveled a safe journey home.

Resolution Further amending and supplementing Resolution No. 256, effective April 26, 2000, as amended, entitled "Providing for an Agreement or Agreements, or use of existing Agreements and/or a Contract or Contracts, or use of existing Contracts, and for the purchase of materials, supplies, equipment, and/or services for various projects in connection with the Neighborhood Needs Program in Council District 9; and providing for the payment of the costs thereof," By reducing Bethany Church by $10,000; East Liberty Arts Council by $3,000; Sixth Mount Zion Church $16,000 and The Bulletin by $500 and adding $10,000 to Sickle Cell Society; $3,500 to Kelly-Strayhorn Theater, $16,000 to Garfield Jubilee and making various other changes in Council District 9. Total of all projects is not to exceed $932,000. Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows: Section 1. Section 1 of Resolution No. 256 effective April 26, 2000, as amended, which currently reads as per attachment Current Budget column; Is hereby amended to read as per attachment Revised Budget column.
