Re: 7R9a-031826 Special Police Class At it’s regular meeting of March 18, 2026, Councilman Carlos M. Gonzalez requested the Department of Public Safety provide information on when, or if, a new class of Special Police officers are being planned to augment the Department of Public Safety. He indicated the last class of candidates who went through the Academy was 18 years ago. Since then new hired have all been retired Police Officers grandfathered in. Offering a dedicated class of non-law enforcement personnel will offer job opportunities for individuals seeking law enforcement careers.
