WHEREAS, this proclamation honors the 100th Year Anniversary of the Business and Professional Girls’ Club of the Centre Avenue YWCA (Girls’ Club) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, founded with Ms. Mary Turner Burrell’s vision when she and a group of young women in 1924 formed the Girls’ Club, which later affiliated with the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. (NANBPWC) led by President Betty Allen Graves in 1951; and,
